The Alliance for Opportunity (A4O) is proud to welcome The Buckeye Institute as its newest member organization.
The Buckeye Institute is the ninth organization to become part of this coalition of state leaders dedicated to advancing poverty solutions that foster pathways to work and empower local communities to support the needs of those struggling. It comes alongside the founding members—the Georgia Center for Opportunity, the Pelican Institute for Public Policy, and the Texas Public Policy Foundation—and five other organizations that joined A4O in 2025.
“The Buckeye Institute has long been committed to advancing policy that helps people and communities thrive economically, which is why we are proud to join the Alliance for Opportunity. The key to Buckeye’s commitment is implementing policies that enable people to find work and achieve career advancement, which A4O is fully committed to. The Buckeye Institute is excited about this new partnership with A4O and looks forward to the opportunities it will offer,” said Rea S. Hederman Jr, vice president of policy at The Buckeye Institute.
Buckeye’s dedication to expanding work and economic opportunity reflects the belief that unifies all A4O members—that work is essential to helping people move from lives of poverty to futures filled with opportunity. Together, A4O members are leading the state-level charge to create One Door to work and opportunity, pilot ideas for individuals to be empowered to self-sufficiency, and reduce benefits cliffs as a barrier to work.
“The Buckeye Institute brings a valuable state perspective and policy expertise to this effort,” said Rachel Barkley, A4O Executive Director. “Their participation in A4O will amplify the message to Washington, D.C., that states need flexibility to innovate and build safety nets that support work and upward mobility instead of long-term dependency.”
A4O looks forward to collaborating with Buckeye—and all A4O members—to change the status quo and refocus our safety net on work, opportunity, and self-sufficiency.
